The growth of a church can be correlated to how much everyone in the church is working. The more hands there are on deck, the more work that can be accomplished.

Titus 2:1-11 talks about how every member can make a difference in their sphere of influence. No matter your age, you can make an impact. That’s what Paul wants Titus to teach the people around him.

Most Bible readers are familiar with the basic story of Hosea. God tells Hosea to marry a woman of harlotry (Gomer), which represents God’s relationship with Israel. Just as Gomer was faithless towards Hosea, so was Israel faithless towards God.

But what about Hosea’s kids?

The first chapter of Hosea says they have three kids — each of which with names that describe the punishment of Israel. There is a lot we can learn from these three names, both what it meant for Israel, and what it can mean for us today.

Paul doesn’t have much patience for people who just talk a lot. It’s distracting from the work, it can create unnecessary divisions, and it ultimately doesn’t accomplish much (if at all).

But it can also “upset entire families.” For that reason, Paul says, “they must be silenced.”

Distractions are everywhere, but in Timothy and Titus’ cases, they have the potential to throw you — and your teaching — way off track.

In 2 Timothy 2, Paul talks about the importance of not deviating from the Scriptures and why you should always stay in line with what God has said for us to do.

Jesus’ parable of the wedding feast is very practical, mostly because it goes through the human emotions that we all struggle with: rejection, disappointment, and anger.

Spiritually speaking, our rejection of Jesus’ invitation to His feast can be eternally fatal. Why we reject it is up to us, but the fact remains that no matter where you come from, there is always room at the table for you.

In 2 Timothy 1&3, Paul pours his heart out to Timothy. Mostly, he tells him to not be afraid of what’s to come, then gives Timothy some sources of strength to turn to when times get tough. Namely, his parents and the Scriptures themselves.

We know that Jesus is powerful. After all, He raised the dead, gave sight to the blind, and “rebuked” nature. There’s no doubt that He can do whatever He wants, any time He wants.

But is it possible for Him to calm my soul?

Our lives can be full of anxiety, fear, suspicion, danger, and sadness. We call on God to help us, but do we actually believe He can? Or, more specifically, how can we be know if He has?

For that, we turn to the Psalms of Lament. These psalms make up nearly 1/3 of the book of Psalms, and they are very relatable when we find ourselves in tough times. They also teach us a lot about our own faith and how it practically intersects with the world around us.

It takes less than 15 minutes a day to finish the entire Bible in a year. What changes would you begin to see?

While getting closer to God and an improved prayer life are part of it, there are a few other benefits you would see too that would definitely surprise you.

After discussing false teachers in 1 Timothy 1, Paul then tells Timothy not to be “greedy.” But what would a preacher have to be greedy about?
