A message from the series “Toolbox for Evangelism.” Before Jesus sent out His disciples into the world to preach the Gospel, He gave them one big piece of information: Persecution is coming.

It’s what we can expect too, and the sooner we realize that, the sooner we can prepare for its inevitability.

Toolbox for Evangelism

Nearly a third of Jesus' teachings consisted of stories, or parables. These seemingly innocent tales were not just given for entertainment though -- they were designed to penetrate the heart in a way a series of commands couldn't. They forced the listener to meditate on the teachings and make the change from the inside out. As such, they were exceedingly effective. Can we use parables today? Of course! Maybe not in the same way as Jesus, but using illustrations can still be effective if handled properly.
