In the midst of a chapter on persecution, the Hebrew writer tells us that we are a part of a kingdom “that cannot be shaken,” and for that, he says, “we should be grateful.” Why?

CloseIf you want to impress God, the last thing you need to do is show up with a bunch of fancy items you *hope* God wants. Huge displays of religiosity and meaningless gestures are worthless if they're not accompanied by actual devotion and humility. The Centurion of Matthew 7 displayed the latter. His understanding of authority, humility, and ultimately compassion demonstrated what was really in his heart. The result was that Jesus "marveled" at the "great faith" that he possessed.
