Shamgar is the third judge – right after Ehud and right before Deborah – but almost nothing is known about him. Why? Part of the reason is because there’s only two verses total about him in the entire Bible, but it could also be because we fail to appreciate what he did in his own time.

For the Israelites wandering around in the desert for 40 years, there was a lot of complaining: Food, water, boredom, leadership, etc. You name it, they probably complained about it. But what were they really saying with those complaints? Was it really about the food and water, or was it something deeper?
