A message from the series “Conversations With Jesus.” The first class in our new series on the Gospel of John begins with a look at what makes John so unique, as well as a glance into Jesus’ conversation with Nicodemus. It’s a fascinating conversation that explores theology from the perspective of someone that’s ingrained in faith — and why it’s important to sometimes reverse what you know to find the Truth.

CloseNearly a third of Jesus' teachings consisted of stories, or parables. These seemingly innocent tales were not just given for entertainment though -- they were designed to penetrate the heart in a way a series of commands couldn't. They forced the listener to meditate on the teachings and make the change from the inside out. As such, they were exceedingly effective. Can we use parables today? Of course! Maybe not in the same way as Jesus, but using illustrations can still be effective if handled properly.
