Paul doesn’t have much patience for people who just talk a lot. It’s distracting from the work, it can create unnecessary divisions, and it ultimately doesn’t accomplish much (if at all).
But it can also “upset entire families.” For that reason, Paul says, “they must be silenced.”

Huge displays of religiosity and meaningless gestures are worthless if they're not accompanied by actual devotion and humility. The Centurion of Matthew 7 displayed the latter. His understanding of authority, humility, and ultimately compassion demonstrated what was really in his heart. The result was that Jesus "marveled" at the "great faith" that he possessed.
