A message from the series “Toolbox for Evangelism.” Nearly a third of Jesus’ teachings consisted of stories, or parables. These seemingly innocent tales were not just given for entertainment though — they were designed to penetrate the heart in a way a series of commands couldn’t. They forced the listener to meditate on the teachings and make the change from the inside out. As such, they were exceedingly effective.
Can we use parables today? Of course! Maybe not in the same way as Jesus, but using illustrations can still be effective if handled properly.

CloseElders are important, so the qualifications that decide those men must be taken seriously. But is it possible that we've missed the forest for the trees? While each individual guideline must be measured up against the men that are being considered for eldership, we make the mistake sometimes of missing what type of man Paul really wanted to serve as an elder.
