A message from the series “Toolbox for Evangelism.” Nearly a third of Jesus’ teachings consisted of stories, or parables. These seemingly innocent tales were not just given for entertainment though — they were designed to penetrate the heart in a way a series of commands couldn’t. They forced the listener to meditate on the teachings and make the change from the inside out. As such, they were exceedingly effective.
Can we use parables today? Of course! Maybe not in the same way as Jesus, but using illustrations can still be effective if handled properly.

CloseA lot of people will tell you that they want to be "led by the Holy Spirit," but what do they mean by that? And is that argument even Biblical? As it turns out, not only is the concept Biblical, but necessary -- but not in the way most people intend it. God leads us through His Word -- which is given by His Spirit -- not by a series of feelings and emotions. Understanding that difference is crucial.
