A message from the series “Toolbox for Evangelism.” Nearly a third of Jesus’ teachings consisted of stories, or parables. These seemingly innocent tales were not just given for entertainment though — they were designed to penetrate the heart in a way a series of commands couldn’t. They forced the listener to meditate on the teachings and make the change from the inside out. As such, they were exceedingly effective.
Can we use parables today? Of course! Maybe not in the same way as Jesus, but using illustrations can still be effective if handled properly.

CloseWhen the prophet Amos showed up in Israel, nobody wanted to listen to him. They even told him to go back to Judah where he belonged. They didn't think he had any business in the "royal presence" of the King of Israel. But Amos had a message to share with the people, and most of it centered around their worship. Not much about what he said was very positive. If Amos were to visit your church, what would he say to you?
