A message from the series “Toolbox for Evangelism.” Nearly a third of Jesus’ teachings consisted of stories, or parables. These seemingly innocent tales were not just given for entertainment though — they were designed to penetrate the heart in a way a series of commands couldn’t. They forced the listener to meditate on the teachings and make the change from the inside out. As such, they were exceedingly effective.
Can we use parables today? Of course! Maybe not in the same way as Jesus, but using illustrations can still be effective if handled properly.

CloseMany churches struggle to find good men to fill positions of leadership, and when they do, it can sometimes lead to strife and animosity. But the Scriptures are very plain that elders and deacons are vital to the work of a local congregation, and it's only by submitting to these men that a church grow in a Biblical fashion.
