A message from the series “Toolbox for Evangelism.” Nearly a third of Jesus’ teachings consisted of stories, or parables. These seemingly innocent tales were not just given for entertainment though — they were designed to penetrate the heart in a way a series of commands couldn’t. They forced the listener to meditate on the teachings and make the change from the inside out. As such, they were exceedingly effective.
Can we use parables today? Of course! Maybe not in the same way as Jesus, but using illustrations can still be effective if handled properly.

CloseThe story of Jesus washing the Apostles' feet has been told and retold for two thousand years. It stands as a powerful lesson of the degrees of humility we should employ in our own life, but the context leading into it shows how we can create the mindset that enables such action.
