A message from the series “Toolbox for Evangelism.” Nearly a third of Jesus’ teachings consisted of stories, or parables. These seemingly innocent tales were not just given for entertainment though — they were designed to penetrate the heart in a way a series of commands couldn’t. They forced the listener to meditate on the teachings and make the change from the inside out. As such, they were exceedingly effective.
Can we use parables today? Of course! Maybe not in the same way as Jesus, but using illustrations can still be effective if handled properly.

CloseManasseh was one of, if not the worst kings to ever sit on the throne of Israel. Yet when he was cast into the dungeon, he was able to turn his life around. His is the original sinner's prayer, and it teaches us that what he started in the dungeon must be carried with him into the rest of his life.
