A message from the series “Toolbox for Evangelism.” Nearly a third of Jesus’ teachings consisted of stories, or parables. These seemingly innocent tales were not just given for entertainment though — they were designed to penetrate the heart in a way a series of commands couldn’t. They forced the listener to meditate on the teachings and make the change from the inside out. As such, they were exceedingly effective.
Can we use parables today? Of course! Maybe not in the same way as Jesus, but using illustrations can still be effective if handled properly.

CloseA lot of people will say they don't want to come to church because "organized religion is created by humans," and all they want is a "relationship" with Jesus. I get that. But instead of throwing all churches out because of the actions of a few, why not think about the need for the church in your life? God created the church after all -- that's what we should be a part of. Not a religious group full of made up rules.
