A message from the series “Toolbox for Evangelism.” Nearly a third of Jesus’ teachings consisted of stories, or parables. These seemingly innocent tales were not just given for entertainment though — they were designed to penetrate the heart in a way a series of commands couldn’t. They forced the listener to meditate on the teachings and make the change from the inside out. As such, they were exceedingly effective.
Can we use parables today? Of course! Maybe not in the same way as Jesus, but using illustrations can still be effective if handled properly.

CloseAt some point in our conversations with other people to bring them to Christ, we have to talk about Hell. The same Bible that speaks about Heaven also mentions Hell, so it's a necessary part of the Gospel, even if it is uncomfortable. When do we broach that conversation? And, just as importantly, how do we talk about Hell? Ultimately, it requires our judgment, but we have to make sure we talk about it in the right way to have the desired effect -- leading people to Jesus.
